Six Weeks After The Birth Of Her Triplets, Mom Learns They’re A One In 200 Million Case

She was 23-years old when her life changed forever. And while it was an unexpected change and an enormous challenge, it indeed was changing for the better. Becki-Jo Allen of Liverpool in the United Kingdom received the news that only a select few parents ever get to hear. She was having triplets. She was stressed. She was overwhelmed. But she was overflowing with joy and excitement.

She remembers when she first learned she was pregnant with three babies at once.

“I had been being very sick and had a really bad headache so I booked an early scan, and that was when I found out I was expecting triplets,” Becki-Jo told Echo. “It was the biggest shock of my life! We haven’t got any triplets in the family, so it came completely out of the blue.”

Becki-Jo was no stranger to parenthood. Although she was only 23-years old, she already had a daughter. But giving birth to three baby boys at the same time was remarkably different and challenging. Their names are Roman, Rocco, and Rohan. And immediately after their birth, they had to spend six weeks in the neonatal intensive care unit.

After that, they were cleared to go back home with their mother and their older sister.

“Now they are absolutely thriving, getting bigger and meeting all their milestones,” Becki-Jo said.

But the surprises were still coming. She learned at that point that her triplets were a one in 200 million chance. And it had to do with how they looked.

People had told Becki-Jo that the babies all looked very similar. But only when she was willing to do a DNA test did she discover that they were all genetically identical triplets. And that’s an exceptionally rare occurrence akin to winning the Powerball lottery.

“When they were in the hospital, the doctors said they were non-identical, but since they came home lots of people have said they can’t tell them apart,” Becki told Daily Mail. “I was surprised because I expected them to be non-identical/ But then I’m normally the only one who can tell them apart, so that does explain a lot!’”

Because they all looked the same, Becki-Jo, like everyone else, had some trouble telling the infants apart. And that made it hard to remember which one she fed and changed last.

“When they were newborns it was quite hard to tell which one was which, but I never got them mixed up myself,” she said. “They’ve all got dark birthmarks between their eyebrows, but Roman’s is slightly darker than the others’, and Rohan has got a birthmark on his leg as well.”

While all three baby boys may look the same, they do not all act the same. Each has his unique personality. And as they got older, it was easier for mom to tell them apart.

She said it’s their unique personalities that really makes them stand apart.

“Rohan is the loud one. He’s always shouting. Rocco is normally quite laid-back, but he can be feisty said, while Roman is usually complaining that he doesn’t want to share,” she explains. “They’re always crawling about after the same toy, trying to get to it before their brothers do.”
